Fiction Writer Channels His Inner Bowie With New Track – Desire
Having just debuted their first single No rumour earlier in October, Fiction Writer are coming out swinging with another catchy tune titled Desire.
Gideon Bensen (formerly The Preatures guitarist/vocalist) is behind the project and after leaving The Preatures in March to pursue a solo career, he has ambitiously sought out another musical endeavour with Fiction Writer.
Desire begins with bouncing piano chords backed with smooth bowie-esque vocals. A nice steady beat comes in with a crunching fuzzed-out bassline to get the song moving. Holding a solid groove sitting somewhere between dance and rock music, with a bit of sludge thrown in there for good measure. Desire begins to take on a rock opera vibe as we get further along and surprises are definitely ahead. About midway through there is an emotive and original break down, stripping down to layered vocals, piano and hypnotic drum cymbals. After this, the track hooks straight back into the verse. Rounding off with an up-tempo break down in the last minute, a heavy guitar solo and Bensen’s swooning vocals, Desire is a surprising song that packs a punch.
Fiction Writer are set to release an EP on December 22nd titled ONE to Four, out on Puncture Records.
