Art Kane is regarded as one of the most influential photographers to ever exist it’s an accolade most photographers strive for with their work. Born Arthur Kanofsky in 1925 like many young men of his age the second world war loomed over his head. He served in a unit known as The Ghost Army, an incubator for many young artists. Kane’s rise as a lorded photographer came from his worship of the unknown and willingness to create in a way that others would only dream. He created work that was provocative, experimental, and playful, sometimes rejected by magazines for nudity or irreverence.
Art Kane contributed to major fashion magazines of his era, including editions outside of the USA. There are few people who leave a lasting legacy but Kane sure is one of them. His contributions to photography continue to resonate throughout the industry today. His work remains unmatched.
